Thankfully, not much. Each picture with a QR code will need printing and cutting out, plus the Northwind Nook map. Other than that, 1 picture is hidden every day in a different place around the house. There is no thought involved with the hiding places are they are already allocated and itemised in the enclosed ‘Daily Hiding List’. Total prep time approx. 1-2 minutes per day.
Each day consists of an elf quest to find the academy task, hidden around the house. The elf quest is presented as a short (45 second) video with directions: seek out the correct character from the Northwind Nook map and that will lead to the hidden task. Once found, there is a short (1 minute or less) video from Santa, showcasing the meaning of that day’s ‘nice’ word e,g, ‘Bold’, ‘Mindful’. It would be good to carry out this part in the morning, as then the child has a whole day to focus upon the nice theme of the day. Then, later on that day, you can give your child an opportunity to talk about their day and demonstrate how they have been nice, in order to gain a tick/checkmark and be one step closer to making it on to Santa’s Nice List.
Total time: 5 minutes – 1 hour (depending upon how much there is to discuss, or how much time you have!)
Yes! Siblings, for example, can carry out the quests together. You can add as many ticks/checkmarks as you like to each task, or you can print off 2 or more copies from the same download. This applies to the certificate too. If you have chosen to purchase a personalised printed copy, there is the option to add more certificates at the checkout.
Although being naughty or nice is completely subjective, there will probably be a time when your child is having an ‘off day’ (or week!). The purpose of the tasks is to provide a talking point to engage with what it is to be a ‘nice’ person. For example, for the healthy task, your child could make a suggestion of what they might like to do. They could run 5km or just try a new vegetable. If they’ve given it a little go, that’s good enough for Santa!
If you choose to have the pack personalised, printed and posted out to you, then you don’t need a printer at all. The downloadable printouts are designed for a colour printer, however the pictures/decorations and QR codes still work with a black and white or greyscale setting. The end result is still a high quality digital printout.
If you choose to print your own copies at home – the download is instant and can be accessed immediately. If you choose to have a personalised paper copy posted to you, the pack will be dispatched from the UK within 24 hours, with 1-2 days for delivery (or up to 1 week for overseas orders).
Paperchain:
Only use the strips of paper after you have scanned the QR code for that day.
Step 1: Form a loop with the first strip and glue the ends so that the stripy end meets the solid line of the white end (and the date is still showing).
Step 2: Thread the 2nd strip through the loop from step 1 and glue the ends (as per step 1)
Step 3: Repeat until all the strips of paper are used! Don't get too far ahead of yourself or you won't be able to scan the QR code.
Bunting:
The square picture 'tasks' will have already been cut out in order to play the treasure hunt. Use a hole puncher over the 2 small circle guides at the top of the task picture, to make holes to hang them. If you don't have a hole puncher, you can carefully use the end of a pair of scissors.
Once the tasks have been found for that day, simply thread some string through the holes to make the bunting.
